You would have thought after 25 years side by side, the Olsen twins might have the urge to branch out occasionally. But it seems that desire hasn't hit them yet, as this month they star on a special Elle UK double cover edition.
With a collector's and regular edition cover each, photographed by Alexei Hay, the two showcase their distinctly different styles in glittering designs from Prada and Dolce & Gabbana amongst others, continuing the fashion-fest inside the magazine for a further 10 pages.
Despite the stigma usually attached to celebrity fashion lines, the twosome have made the transition from child acting stars to bona-fide designers with impeccable style, and currently head up four different fashion labels, with their luxury line The Row on the New York Fashion Week schedule.
But unlike others, it's all their own work: "We are perfectionists. We've always wanted to be closely involved with everything, totally hands on - that's why it works. If we step away, it stops working. I know it sounds controlling, but that's how it has to be."
The pair, who try to stay out of the limelight now, also reveal their respect for their fellow designers, calling Tom Ford's career 'astonishing' and commending the modesty of Céline's celebrated creative director Phoebe Philo.
And on twins working together? "We're attracted to different things, but we arrive at the same place. I think we're probably unaware of how intuitive it might seem from the outside. It's basically one thought process shared between two people."
