I was looking at a photo recently, a photo of my boyfriend and I taken back in February 2011 on a beach in Merimbula, NSW. It made me realise how long I have actually been living in Australia. It was a WOW moment. I couldn't believe the time had gone by so quickly. Another photo that made me think the same was when I saw a photo of my friend Kaley May and I at last years Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Another year on, here we are and another Fashion Week approaches.
So what exactly does this mean for those of us that are fans of the festivities? Well this year the organizers of the event are promising a more eclectic range of events and activities, celebrating the diversity of fashion and creativity that has made Melbourne the culture capital of Australia. Designer runway shows housed in the spectacular surrounds of Melbourne's Town Hall, free workshops, brand activations and a range of industry events sure to inspire the masses are all planned throughout the festival period.
Over four special evenings, the public are invited to attend the MSFW Designer Shows. Melbourne Town Hall provides the perfect backdrop for the best of Australian fashion highlighting key colours, shapes and styles for the coming season. With local designers featured in more than seventy percent of the collections, the MSFW Designer shows celebrate Melbourne's status as an iconic fashion city.
The MSFW Industry program is a full day of events designed to give inspiration and education to those fascinated with the industry. These include the Power Hour which are a selection of targeted sessions that provide valuable insight from industry experts on a range of topics such as creating a brand, technology in the design process and growing a business within the fashion industry.
The MSFW Hub is where fashion, beauty and design meet. For the duration of MSFW, City Square will host the MSFW Hub, a curated live-site showcasing all things, fashion, beauty and style. Demonstrations and workshops from leading beauty and style advisers will take place throughout the week and you can even get a freshly brewed coffee in a limited edition designer cup from the Vittoria Cafe located on-site.
One of the most exciting aspects of the week is MSFW Mr. For one night only, the MSFW Hub is trading in its high heels for slick Chelsea boots as MSFW present its first ever male focused fashion event on the 5th September. That is one event I will surely be attending.
These and so much more are taking place from the 31st August until the 8th September, for more information make sure to check out the website www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/msfw.
